When I moved to the U.S. from Denmark, I was 5 years old. At first I was a very shy child and drawing was my outlet and joy. As I got older, this love never faded, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. I have been an artist/illustrator for 40 years. Over the years I have managed/worked several Fine Art galleries. I worked as a background artist in the animation industry, I then moved on to work in-house for a children's book publisher illustrating books. In the last 15 years I have freelanced illustrating children's books for Sleeping Bear Press. Along with being an illustrator I have also painted numerous murals and painted portraits. I specialize in painting children and animals. I like to portray my subjects in a relaxed and casual pose. I convey my subjects through careful design, harmony of color, and spontaneity of expression. I emphasize a softness in my brushwork to create a strikingly life like portrait. An eloquent portrayed of my subjects eyes are very important. I also enjoy teaching children and adults the joy of art. My students learn, develop critical skills, and have fun when provided the opportunity for creative artistic expression. As an artist I am always exploring new challenges for creative growth. Capturing the personality and character of the person I am painting is essential in portraying the mood and expression within their natural surrounding. Each painting holds new experiences and challenges. My newest adventure is doing Plein Air painting. I love nature, the outdoors. Being able to paint from life is very exhilarating! I am very excited for this new chapter in my life. Networking with other artists is amazing. I have joined the California Art Club and I look forward to new experiences that lie ahead!
I mostly paint in oils, especially when I'm doing my Plein Air paintings. I also paint in watercolors, acrylics and color pencil, etc. I enjoy working in various mediums once in a while for a change in pace.
I feel so blessed to have this talent, it is truly a gift from God! To be able to create fine art paintings and bring joy to others is so rewarding! My inspiration also comes from my daughter who is my whole world. Having special friends in my life who believe in me is what keeps me motivated as well as my clients who buy my work. Not a day goes by that I don't forget to count my blessing and praise God.
